9. Scholarships and Financial Aid
NCJLA Player Scholarship Application
The NCJLA has a scholarship program that can reimburse clubs up to 50% of the financial aid offered to families who have an approved financial aid application request on file with their club. Clubs need to have a current, working, established financial aid policy that is made publicly available to all club families who wish to apply. Each year, the NCJLA Board approves a budget for financial aid reimbursement for the upcoming season. Between Nov 1st -30th, Click here for the program scholarship application form.
Criteria for Club Financial Aid Policy Verification:
- Award amounts are based on need(s), not abilities or athletic experience.
- Application and submission process can be found on the club website when NCJLA attempts to verify. No login required.
- Applicants should not be required to be a member of the club prior to applying for the financial aid / scholarship. It may require that they become a member inorder to receive the awarded amount.
- Players must apply, the financial aid is not automatically provided to all members of the club.
- The club must advertise that an applicant can request assistance with completing the application and the club will provide that assistance.
- The club should include a google translate option for the application so that parents with English as a second language can apply.
NCJLA Team Scholarship Application
In order to remove the financial barrier to entry into the sport of lacrosse, the NCJLA offers various TEAM SCHOLARSHIPS. The NCJLA Board of Directors announces the team divisions and award amounts for those scholarships at the annual Delegates Meeting in September. In order to qualify, teams must be registered, meet scheduling requirements outlined in the annual Scheduling Appendix for their division and submit their application on time (see below). The NCJLA Board of Directors will review the application and award the team(s) based on need and the number of applications received that year.
NCJLA Special Program Grants
Based on NCJLA special programs and initiatives offered by the NCJLA for a given season there may be funds available for individual or club grants. These can range from discount codes for coaches/players education workshops or online courses to grants for equipment and game day supplies for a club. Current season grant applications, if offered that season, can be found under the club administrators tab. Email
for questions related to current grant opportunities.
Award process for NCJLA Scholarships
Applications are due November 30th of each year via an online form on the NCJLA website under the club administrators tab. In order for clubs to be eligible for the full amount of any scholarship awards, the club must be in good financial standing with the NCJLA. If the club is not, the amount owed will be deducted from the scholarship amount for the club. The NCJLA Executive Director will contact the Club President once the award amount has been determined and if their club was selected for an award Club Presidents may elect to receive their award amounts in the following formats:
- Check after team registration closes
- Credit towards team registration
- Credit towards season officials fees invoice
This process applies to the NCJLA Player and Team Scholarships. To inquire about your club’s financial standing with the NCJLA email the NCJLA Treasurer at
NCJLA Fundraising Agreement
The NCJLA coordinates end of season and special events for the membership throughout the year. These events require staff and/or volunteers to assist with event set up, break down, parking monitors etc. For some events the NCJLA Board of Directors allocate funds for event staff. If your club is interested in working these events as a fundraiser please read the NCJLA Fundraising Agreement and email email@example.com to apply. Applications are due by Jan 30th and organizations/clubs are selected for the events and are notified by Feb 10th of each year.
Officials Recruitment Scholarship
Periodically the NCJLA offers a scholarship to newly recruited adult officials to offset the costs of becoming an official. If the NCJLA will be offering this scholarship it will be announced at the annual Delegates Meeting in September. The scholarship typically covers their US Lacrosse membership and uniform. Recruits must register on the NCJLA website under the Club Administrators tab (Officials Sign Up Form). Once the recruit completes training and works 10 NCJLA games they become eligible for payment. The NCJLA sends each official’s organization the funds to be paid to the official through Arbiter Pay. Each club is required to recruit 1 adult per season.
The NCWLO (girl’s game) and NCLRA (boy’s game) officials organization may offer scholarships. Please check their website for more information about financial assistance for officials.
Please see the NCJLA Operations Guide section Officials and Game Fees for how to become an official for your club.
